When was the work done?
Between July and August 2015. What was involved?
Knocking through the kitchen and the dining room and extending the kitchen outwards. The extension was the full width of the house so it was pretty big. Swords did all the building work, electrics, plumbing etc.
How did you choose Swords Building Contractors?
We saw Swords Building Contractors on pickapro. Peter came up to see us and his manner was just lovely - nothing was an issue. I had gotten about 4 or 5 quotes and Peter just filled us with confidence. He's very calm!
Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Peter Ashmore?
We did - it was fairly straightforward what we were looking for in that we were knocking through and extending out. The one thing that I really, really wanted was for the back wall to be all glass, and that what we got. We've French doors with an apex window above and glass panels on either side - it's lovely.
Did Peter introduce new ideas?
Yes, he did. For example, I wouldn't have picked enough plug points or lights and he advised us on that. In terms of design I told him what I was looking for, and he looked at a couple of different options for doing that. He advised on how many velux windows we should have, and whether we should have a lean-to roof or go with the apex roof.
How did the project run?
All excellent. I couldn't fault Peter, He's a tour de force, he was absolutely brilliant! - The workmanship, the cleaning, everything was excellent. I'd recommend him. He even minded my dog!
What was the biggest benefit to you of using Swords Building Contractors?
For me, it was that he was always on the ground. Peter's 100% involved in the project. He's doing the work as well as managing it - and he was there every day. I never had any concerns about what's happening next, because he was always on hand, or on the end of a phone. I think the fact that he wasn't passing the work on to someone else made me feel so much better about it all.
What's your favourite part now?
My all glass window wall. Even if it's minus 3 outside, the room is always warm. Nobody goes into the front room anymore!
Would you recommend Swords Building Contractors to others?
Absolutely, in a heart beat. He's great.
Any tips for other people?
I think do your homework. Have a clear idea of what you're looking for. If you're indecisive, it's very hard for the builder to determine what exactly you're looking for, and that's maybe when expectations are not met. I was very clear about what I was looking for - it was fairly standard but I had a clear vision and I stuck to it.
